Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Speech-Language Pathology?

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) is a healthcare profession that helps people communicate more effectively and safely manage swallowing.

For adults, speech-language therapy can help with much more than speech. An SLP can evaluate and treat difficulties with memory, attention, thinking, word finding, understanding and expressing language, voice, speech, and swallowing.

These challenges can occur for many reasons, including stroke, concussion or traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions, aging-related changes, illness, or other medical conditions.

At The Communication & Wellness Institute, we take a personalized approach to adult speech-language care. We look at how your communication and cognitive skills affect your work, relationships, independence, and everyday life—then develop practical strategies to help you function with greater confidence.

Simply put: Speech-Language Pathology helps you communicate, think, and participate more fully in the life you want to live.

2. What kinds of challenges can be helped by Speech Therapy?

The field of Speech Pathology offers many paths of therapeutic services, some of these are aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphonia due to vocal nodules, misuse/abuse vocal behaviors, cognitive impairments due to stroke, brain injuries, post-concussion syndrome.

3. Do you see children and adults for Speech Therapy?

The Communication & Wellness Institute provides Speech Therapy services to people 18 years old and older. Our expertise is in adult communication-cognitive-voice impairments.

4. Does The Communication & Wellness Institute accept insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance. This allows us to offer maintenance therapy programs which insurance benefits typically do not cover. A clear invoice will be provided, including appropriate billing codes, to be easily used if you choose to submit for insurance reimbursement.

5. What is wellness health coaching? Why would I need it?

Wellness health coaching is a personalized, supportive process that helps you make meaningful changes to the habits and routines that influence how you think, feel, and function every day.

You may not need another diet, exercise plan, or list of things you “should” be doing. You may simply need someone who can help you understand what is getting in the way, create a realistic plan, and stay accountable as you make changes.

At The Communication & Wellness Institute, wellness coaching takes a whole-person approach to your well-being. We may focus on areas such as:

  • 🧠 Cognitive wellness, focus, and mental clarity

  • 😴 Sleep and recovery

  • ⚡ Energy and daily vitality

  • 🥗 Nutrition and healthy habits

  • 🏃 Movement and physical activity

  • 🌿 Stress management and resilience

  • ❤️ Healthy aging and long-term wellness

  • 🔄 Creating sustainable routines that fit your real life

6.Why Might Wellness Coaching Be Right for Me?

Wellness coaching may be a good fit if you find yourself thinking:

“I don't feel like myself lately.”
“I'm tired all the time.”
“Why am I so forgetful or scattered?”
“I know what I should be doing, but I can't seem to stick with it.”
“I want to take better care of my brain and body as I get older.”

Coaching gives you a place to slow down, identify what matters most, and turn your goals into practical steps you can actually maintain.

Rather than giving you a one-size-fits-all program, we work together to develop strategies that fit your needs, preferences, lifestyle, and goals.

You don't have to wait until something is wrong to invest in your well-being. Wellness coaching can help you become more intentional and proactive about how you want to feel, function, and live in the years ahead.

Wellness coaching is educational and behavior-change support. It does not diagnose or treat medical conditions and is not a substitute for medical care.

7. Is wellness health coaching the same thing as mental health therapy?

No. Therapy often focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions or processing past experiences. Wellness health coaching is forward-focused and client-driven. It helps you develop tools, strategies, and mindset shifts to navigate your well-being.
